北極研究聯合助攻:北極加速暖化之機制與環境衝擊跨域整合研究

The study considers Svalbard and the high Arctic as the study areas. The proposed joint research entitled “ The Arctic Joint Research: Transdisciplinary study on the mechanisms and environmental impacts driven by accelerating warming in the Arctic area.” The three-year study includes six sub-projects: Sub project 1: A new glacier steady-state under extreme warming conditions- the understanding of the triggering mechanism of Aavatsmarkbreen surge.”; Sub project 2: “The teleconnection between the Arctic and Taiwan – the monitoring and modeling of vertical atmosphere couplings: The development of monitoring instruments in the Arctic area.”; Sub-project 3: The impacts of climate change on the stability of permafrost and gas hydrate: The near-surface and marine geophysical and geochemical surveys.”; Sub-project 4: “The variation of Arctic Ocean- The assessment of climate-induced risk for Fram Strait.” Sub-project 5:” Study on the species interactions and biodiversity in the Arctic under global environmental change conditions.”; and Sub-project 6:” Study on near-surface hydro-thermal interactions and development of the critical zone observatory.” The study aims to characterize the mechanisms of positive and negative impacts of accelerating warming on mass and energy interactions, biochemical variations, and socioeconomic activities. In addition, the assessment of the facilities for an integrated monitoring station in the Arctic area will be conducted during the study period. The integrated earth monitoring station will include monitoring instruments from space sciences, atmospheric sciences, near-surface and ocean science, and biological sciences. The results of the study are expected to extend international collaboration, enhance the understanding of global warming mechanisms and monitoring technologies, and support the knowledge for Net Zero actions in Taiwan.
