It is estimated that the impact of global warming in polar regions manifests double as much as other geographical provinces around the world, and in Svalbard particularly, reaches 7 times of it. Clearly, the most observable impact of these changes considers thinning of an ice-cover and glaciers retreat, which is reported as a ‘glacier mass balance’. The recent studies report the total mass loss of the glaciers in Svalbard reaches 5 to 10 Gt/year. This means that vast surface of Arctic regions is continuously being exposed. As the result, we observe newly emerging topographies, which has never been surveyed before. Recent collaboration with Nicolaus Copernicus University in Poland (Torun) and National Central University in Taiwan, resulted in launching annual fieldtrips to the western Svalbard, Kaffiøyra, where we were able to conduct reconnaissance fieldwork and initiate surveys aiming several targets as: landscape evolution, geological mapping, permafrost monitoring, glacier retreat. The main approach in the proposed research is to survey and expand landscape evolution and reorganization surveys due to rapid environment change of the Kaffiøyra plain and glaciers terminuses (termini) in the western Svalbard. Very fast development of fluvial systems as well as moraine production, build new landforms that carry major impact on the landscape and therefore, its reorganization.
